Valentines Day
Fraberts has everything you need to make your Valentines Day dinner romantic and delicious! We’ll have lots of great local steaks on hand, and as always everything to go with those steaks. Sparkling cider, freshly baked pies and Mapleton’s ice cream for dessert…. Add candles, wine, and romance and you are all set!  (Or you can order a “When in Rome” gourmet pizza…)  Happy Valentines Day!

Family Day Weekend
February 16-18
Celebrate the long weekend with great food! Fraberts will have lots of our famous nacho dip, flatbreads, hummus and other snacks ready for family entertaining. Having a special dinner – we can help with that too!   Note:  we will be open 10-5 on Family Day, Monday February 18.

Fraberts Harvest Festival – Saturday, September 24

Part of Wellington County’s “taste.real” Rural Romp.  Stop in for free samples from 11:00am till 4:00pm.  We’ll be featuring Chef Derek’s fall menu, Gordon’s goat cheese, Oro San Carlos award winning olive oil, and much more.  Celebrate the harvest with us!

Thanksgiving

…is around the corner!  Order your fresh, local, delicious turkey before Friday, September 30 to avoid disappointment.  We can also bring in chicken, ham, beef, lamb, or whatever other meat you may want to celebrate with.  For the vegetarians in the family Chef Derek makes a delicious tofu loaf with wild mushroom gravy.  Of course we will also have plenty of our famous Drunken Cranberry Sauce, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, turkey dinners, etc. on hand to help you enjoy the holiday.

Celebrate 3 Years of Fresh Food

We’re Three Years Old!

Come and celebrate with us this Saturday, May 7.  We will have free samples available from 11 till 4pm – try Monforte sheep cheese, Gordon’s goat cheese, ice syrup, and Acropolis olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Of course many of Chef Derek’s new treats and old classics will be on hand to try too.  Friend us on Facebook by Sunday, May 8 and we will enter you in a draw for $50 in free groceries.
As always, our lean local ground beef is $2.99/lb.  Our store slow roasted beef, pork loin, and Harriston Packers black forest ham is $6.49/lb, which is $1.43/100 grams.  Best price and quality in town!  On sale while supplies last – beef tenderloin is $15.99/lb or $17.99/lb cut into steaks.

Congratulations to Awards of Excellence Winners!

We’d like to congratulate all of the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence winners which were announced last week.  We want to especially congratulate our neighbours, Grand River Running on their double win – Customer Service Excellence and Corporate Citizen of the Year!  We are inspired by both 98 year old Citizen of the Year, Loiuse Goldsmith, and Youth Citizen of the Year, environmentalist Sarah Henneken.   We are also proud to pass on the title “Small Business of the Year” to our very own computer saviours, Planet CPU.

Easter is here!

Easter is Here!

Last Chance to Order Easter ham, lamb, turkey, roast – whatever you need!  Please order by end of day Monday (April 18) at the latest.  Local, fresh, humanely raised on family farms – receive rave reviews every holiday.  Call 226-383-7374 or drop by the store to order.  Don`t forget that Chef Derek can also help with the fixings, and there will be lots of our famous Drunken Cranberry Sauce in store to accompany the meal.

Oh, and the boys in the back have perfected the hot cross bun……you might want to order these as quantities will be limited and they will be snapped up quickly with that aroma throughout the store!

Easter Gourmet Cupcakes

Many of you savoured these decadent treats when we brought them in for Valentine’s Day and St Patrick’s Day.  See what Brenda of “Simply Irresistible” has created for Easter.  They are gorgeous and even taste better than they look (which says a LOT)!  Handmade with the best ingredients and beautifully presented – a delicious and gorgeous gift for those beyond the chocolate bunny.

Save the Date!

We are celebrating our 3rd birthday on Saturday, May 7.  We have some suppliers lined up for demos and of course we’ll have some of Chef Derek’s new creations (and some old favourites too) out for sampling.  Details to come.

Easter in Downtown Fergus

Hippity hippity hop to downtown Fergus on Easter Saturday (April 23)!  From noon till 4pm many of our downtown retailers are offering fun activities and treats for the whole family.  The Fergus Community Market is offering live entertainment and egg decorating.  Make Easter cookies at Fergie’s Fine Foods.  Don’t forget I Love Chocolate’s annual Easter colouring contest – there will be a colouring station set up for any last minute entries (and of course there will be treats there too!).  Roxanne’s is offering kids crafts.  There are treats and activities at many other downtown retailers such as Big Monkey Little Monkey, Cherry Hill Entertainment, and of course Fraberts Fresh Food – just look for the Easter balloons out front of participating stores!

One of the first members of our Fraberts family is moving on.  Most of you will remember Frazer deVries – the handsome young lad working alongside Chef Derek in the kitchen who was always there to help.  He was a valuable and enjoyable part of the team and we will miss him dearly.  We wish him luck and happiness as he moves on with his life and career.

Fraberts has now entered the wonderful world of social media.  Follow us on Twitter (fraberts) or go to our Facebook fan page (Fraberts Fresh Food) and “like us” (please?).  This will be the best way to keep up to date on daily activities such as when the first local asparagus or strawberries hit the shelf, or when the next 2 for 1 freezer sale is on.

Elora Farmers Market
Only two weeks left for our winter market.  Thanks for your support during our first year of this endeavour.  The outdoor market resumes on May 14 at our new home in Bissell Park – see you there!

Valentines Day is Coming
Special for Valentines Day – and perhaps every weekend depending on response – we are offering “Simply Irresistible” gourmet filled cupcakes – “cupcakes for grownups”.  Brenda brought some by to sample and they are absolutely delicious!  Handmade in small batches with the best ingredients – real butter, whipped cream and real fruit preserves – yum!  Order ahead to avoid disappointment – chocolate decadence, lemon heaven, raspberry almond dream, and pumpkin spice.  They even come in a lovely box – the perfect Valentines Day treat for your loved one(s)!

Treat your sweetheart to a romantic dinner in, or a decadent cheese board to go with the perfect bottle of wine – ask Chef Derek how he can help!

Parents learn about “Real Food” at James McQueen
We had the pleasure of meeting with approximately 50 parents at James McQueen Public School here in Fergus on January 26, along with Amy Waugh, local dietician with the Upper Grand Family Health team, to talk about “real food”.  We had a great discussion on how to feed your family healthy meals – portion sizes, balance, variety, including more fruits and veggies, quick easy tips, staying on budget, etc.  I have included our handout materials on www.frabertsfreshfood.com as a post titled “Real Food”.  Thank you so much to the “Greener McQueen” parents for organizing such an informative evening for everyone!

Fraberts Famous Cooking Classes

Italian Cooking 101
Our first cooking class of the year is coming up, scheduled for Monday, January 31 from 7-9 pm.  Call us at 226-383-7374 or come in to sign up right away as we limit the class to 14 participants and they fill up fast!  You can’t beat good Italian cooking – come on out and learn some great techniques and recipes. Cost is $45 per person which includes a recipe booklet, snacks,  lots of information and fun, plus you get to take home what you make.

Custom Cooking Classes
Looking for a fun night out with a group of friends?  Have a specific cooking topic in mind?  Give Chef Derek a call and see what we can come up with.  We’ve done custom cooking classes on healthy eating and “Appetizers for Fun” for groups and a good time was had by all!

Mystery Envelope
If you received a green “mystery envelope” during our renovation celebration back in December, be sure to bring it in this month to find out if you won $50 in free groceries!  Remember, don’t break the seal until you get to the store – and every one is a winner.  The $50 winner has not come in yet….it might be you!
