Summertime is Here!
Fraberts Fresh Food for Thought – June, 2009

Fraberts Celebrated Our First Birthday!

Thanks to your support, we survived our first year of business and we had a great party to celebrate during the weekend of May 29-31.  If you missed it, be on the lookout for Derek’s zucchini cake, which was a hit – he has been told it must be added to our baking selections!

The Best Meat in Town!

We officially launched our local fresh meat counter in May.  Try our fresh local steaks, pork chops, sausage, or ribs on your BBQ this summer.  On weekends we have lots on display in our meat/deli counter.  During the week we have some vac-packed on the shelves.

Fraberts Family Profile – The Elmira Produce Auction Cooperative

The Elmira Produce Auction Cooperative (EPAC) is a locally owned cooperative established in 2004.  Owned and operated by members of the farming community within 75 kilometres of the Elmira area, EPAC supports local growers by creating a new market for regional produce.

EPAC’s goal is to increase family farm revenue by encouraging local farmers to diversify into higher value crops like seasonal fruit and vegetables.  The wholesale market provides a consistent sales outlet for local farms willing to invest in fruit and vegetable production.

EPAC recognized that food is a growing concern for consumers.  More and more people recognize the importance of buying locally and appreciate the quality and the unbeatable taste of fresh picked food.

Jackie attends the EPAC auction at least once a week to purchase most of the local produce we sell at Fraberts, such as our famous tunnel tomatoes.
