Historic Fergus Marketplace on the River seeking facelift
Are you creative? Do you have an interest in historical preservation? Are you passionate about downtown Fergus and its gorgeous riverfront?
The Board of Directors of the Historic Marketplace on the River have launched a competition, seeking proposals for a facelift for the building along the Grand River in downtown Fergus.
“We are investing in our beautiful, historic building and we need your help,” stated Jackie Fraser, Marketplace board member and owner of Fraberts Fresh Food. “As a key part of the Grand Riverscape through downtown Fergus, we are looking for proposals to improve our appearance and utility within this gorgeous part of our community.”
The objective is to make the river façade attractive to shoppers and tourists on the north side of the Grand River. Goals include extending the boardwalk from the Milligan Footbridge and parking lots at the west end to St David Street on the east end (filling in a small gap just east of the Goofie Newfie entrance), and making it attractive, including “pop out” areas for sitting or pausing to look at the river. Another goal is to re-paint or otherwise improve the look of the cinder block wall at the west end, including creative use of the old window wells.
Submit your proposal to Eric Van Grootheest’s office at 169 St Andrew Street West by Wednesday, June 15 at 4:00pm. Drawings of the building are available at The Van Grootheest Team office, or electronically by contacting Eric Van Grootheest at email@example.com. The winner will be chosen by the Marketplace board of directors and will receive $500 in prize money. Preference will be given to cost effective designs that highlight and respect the historic significance of the building, and blend in with the rest of the building.
