Spring is almost here at Fraberts Fresh Food
Fraberts Fresh Food For Thought – March, 2009

 Yes, Easter is Coming!

Spring is just around the corner….which means Easter is on its way.  Let us know if you need help with your Easter dinner – order fresh local lamb, ham, duck, beef, turkey, or chicken from Fraberts. Need ideas?  Chef Derek is here to answer any questions you may have.  As always, we can also help with the fixings (such as our famous “Drunken Cranberry Sauce”), snacks, appetizers and dessert!  Call us at 226-383-7374 or drop by the store.

 Curry for the Curious

According to the feedback from our evaluations, our first cooking class, “Soup for Starters” was a lot of fun (and even informative).  For our next class, Chef Derek will show you how to make delicious curries on Thursday, March 19 from 7pm to 9pm.  The cost is $45 per person, which includes a fun night with others learning to make curry, sampling, ingredients, informative handout including tips and recipes, and two curries for you to take home.  Space is limited to the first 10 who register so call us right away – 226-383-7374 (a local call). Our first class sold out within a week, so sign up now!

 St Patrick’s Day

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day during the week of March 17 with Chef Derek’s “St Paddy’s Meat Pies” filled with his famous dark ale beef stew (made with Guiness just for the occasion), Irish Stew, Potato Cheddar and Ale Soup, Corn Beef and Cabbage, and for dessert….Mint Bailey’s White Chocolate Cheese Cakes!

Fraberts’ Suppliers Join in to Help the Food Bank

Thanks to your generous donations, Fraberts is continuing to purchase fresh produce for the Centre Wellington Food Bank.  When I told “Big P”, our supplier of Ontario winter storage veggies such as beets, cabbage, parsnips, onions and carrots, about our work with the Food Bank, he generously donated a large bag of potatoes.  Thanks Big P!

 Fraberts Family Profile

Every month we will provide a profile of a member of the Fraberts family – one of our gourmet food suppliers or a local farmer.  This month we feature The Village Bakery.

The Village Bakery in Mount Forest is a family business, operated by Doug and Jeannette Jamieson.  Jeannette previously worked as a food stylist, and Doug was the photographer.  They opened the bakery in 1996 and have been expanding ever since.

Their son, Tyler, attended the San Fransisco Baking Institute last year and has joined the business as the baker.  He wakes up at 2am to start his day so we can have yummy fresh bread daily!

Doug brings bread and other baked goods down to Fraberts fresh every morning from Wednesday to Saturday.  It is ALL delicious; however their best seller is their flax bread which is light and tasty (not to mention a yummy way to get flax into your diet!)

Our personal favourite is the southwestern cornbread with the zip of jalepeno and cheese.  And if there is ever a bumbleberry pie left at the end of the day…well…it just can’t be left all alone on the shelf!

The Village Bakery donates their day old bread to their local Food Bank.

Best wishes to Doug as he recovers from his knee surgery!

The Village Bakery can be reached at 519-323-3841 – you can order special directly from them and they’ll bring it to Fraberts for you.
