Thanksgiving Weekend Hours

Happy Thanksgiving!

We will be open today until 7pm, Friday 9-7, Saturday 9-6.  We are CLOSED on Sunday to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families.  But we are OPEN again on Monday from 10-5.

It’s not too late to order your fresh, local turkey (about 10 left, size range becoming limited) – or anything else you need (e.g. pies, hams).  Please call 226-383-7374 or drop by right away.

Let’s not forget the true meaning of Thanksgiving at this time (other than the opportunity to enjoy great food of course!).

Thank you to the hard working farmers who have grown and raised the delicious and plentiful local food we are so fortunate to have.

Take time to be thankful for everything you have to be grateful for this weekend.

Long Weekend Hours

Long Weekend at Fraberts

Yes, we are open all weekend long for your end of summer celebrations! Open today till 7pm, Saturday 9-6, Sunday 10-5, and Labour Day Monday 10-5. Stop in for BBQ supplies, freshly cut steaks (best in town!), our own store-made sausages, fabulous burgers (no filler, gluten free), and terrific salads to accompany. Don’t forget Van Tols’ terrific sweet corn, picked fresh daily. A great time for local fruit – enjoy Niagara peaches while you can – and new crop apples.

Back to School…

There’s nothing like packing school lunches…..sigh. Let us help you feel good about school lunches! Much of our deli meat (e.g. our famous roast beef and delicious roast turkey breast) is roasted right in the store – with no additives or nitrates. It’s delicious and guilt free. We also have fresh bread and UDI’s gluten-free bread for those sandwiches, as well as all the fixings. Throw in local fruit that actually tastes good, some veggies with hummus or dip, local yogurt, and maybe a sweet treat and you are good to go. We guarantee empty lunch boxes at the end of the day!

Whole Hog BBQ

Join us and cheer on team Fraberts at the first annual Whole Hog BBQ to support our local Food School! 5 chefs, 5 pigs, celebrity judges and a blues band – on Sunday, September 7 from 3-7pm at the Food School Farmhouse at the fairgrounds (beside the Centre Wellington Sportsplex).

Today is the last day for early bird tickets ($25) available at the downtown Fergus Scotiabank. Next week tickets are $35. Kids 12 and under are free.

Chefs Derek and Jay have practiced up with a local pig and our new La Caja China BBQ box – they are ready to compete! Come on out for a great event, great food, and a great cause.

We’re open all weekend to help you with your holiday weekend entertaining needs!   Open Friday 9-7, Saturday 9-6, Sunday 10-5, Monday 9-7, and Canada Day Tuesday 10-5.

We have the best steaks in town, our delicious sausages, or Fraberts Fabulous burgers for the BBQ.  Add our pre-made salads and you can stay out of the kitchen – enjoy this terrific weather after that horrid winter!

Every day brings new, local produce.  Ontario strawberries are peaking right now.  We’ve also got new potatoes, Collins local spinach, asparagus, peas, lettuce, herbs, zucchini, beets, radish and so much more.

Local Food Week

Celebrate Local Food Week at Fraberts!

Join us as we celebrate Ontario’s first annual Local Food Week from June 2-8!  Fraberts will be featuring different local food products every day with promotions and information.

On Monday we featured Ontario hothouse veggies with 50% off locally grown Boston lettuce and 10% off greenhouse peppers, cucumbers and Floralane tomatoes.  The schedule for the rest of the week is as follows:

Tuesday is local chicken day.  Learn about our fabulous local chicken from Abate Packers in Arthur.  Features for Tuesday include 10% off fresh chicken breasts, thighs, and whole chickens; 25% off frozen chicken breasts, thighs, and whole chickens; 2 for 1 frozen chicken wings

Wednesday is local pork day.  Learn about our local pork from Domingos in Arthur and Harriston Packers in Harriston.  Features for Wednesday include 10% off our own sausages (fresh or frozen); 25% off frozen pork chops.

Thursday is local cheese day.  Learn about Thornloe cheese, Best Baa Sheep Dairy, and River’s Edge Goat Dairy.  Features include 10% off Thornloe cheese, 10% off Best Baa sheep cheese, and 25% off frozen River’s Edge chevre.

Friday is local beef day.  Learn about our local beef from Harriston Packers.  Features include 25% off frozen steaks.

Saturday is our Local Food Festival – meet with local farmers and suppliers and sample local food from 11am-2pm.

Sunday is local veggie day.  Learn about seasonal veggies and our delicious local asparagus will be 10% off.

We are so fortunate in Ontario to have access to a wide variety of delicious local food.  There are many ways you can celebrate Local Food Week.  Commit to eating locally produced food all week.  Host an all-local food barbecue.  Support a retailer, restaurant, or farmers market specializing in local food.

We are open all weekend for your long weekend food needs.  Celebrate the first long weekend of the summer(?) with your barbecue!  Try our new Fraberts fabulous burgers – handmade right here in the store with no filler (gluten free!).  Our meat counter will be chock full of our delicious store-made sausages and the best steaks in town, not to mention our yummy chicken breasts and pork chops.  Add our popular deli salads and local asparagus and your barbecue feast will be complete!

It’s our 6th birthday and we are having a party!  It’s been quite a journey – in six short years we’ve had many great times and a few challenges too – awards, expansions, bridge closures , terrific community support, ice storms, fun downtown events, and the “winter from retail hell”.  Through it all we have grown, adapted and survived.

We want to celebrate with you – our community who has made our dream possible.  We’ll have samples and demos from some of our favourite suppliers as well as our own tasty products.

We Need a Tag Line!

After 6 years it’s time for us to finally decide on a “tag line” – and we need your help.  What one liner do you think sums up Fraberts Fresh Food?  What should I end my radio ads with?  What should we have on the side of our van, on our website, on our Facebook page?

We have a few fresh, local turkeys and hams that have not be spoken for yet – call 226-383-7374 or come in to get yours as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!  We also have a gorgeous selection of local lamb – leg bone in or out, racks, shoulder roasts, chops.  A delicious way to celebrate Easter and the arrival of spring (finally!).

Don`t forget that Chefs Derek and Jay can also help with the fixings – mashed potatoes, veggies, etc .  And don’t forget our delicious homemade pies!

Spaghetti Supper

On Saturday, April 26, Fraberts is proudly preparing and serving a spaghetti dinner at the Highland Rugby Club from 4:00-8:00pm.  There will be a cash bar and a 50/50 raffle.   All proceeds go to the 2014 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.  Believe it!  We will conquer cancer in this lifetime.  Tickets ($12/adult, $8/child) available at Fraberts.

Grand Taste of the Culinary Arts

On Sunday, April 27, Fraberts is proud to participate in the 9th annual Grand Taste of the Culinary Arts, presented by the Centre Wellington Rotary Club from noon-3pm at the Grand River Raceway.  Sample terrific food from many local restaurants and caterers.  Tickets are available at Fraberts for $35 ($40 at the door), proceeds go to the Groves Memorial Community Hospital Foundation.

Whiskey and Wine…and great food!

On Saturday, April 12 from 7 till late, the Highland Rugby Club and Fraberts Fresh Food are proud to present an evening to experience whiskeys from around the world at the Highland Rugby Club’s Victoria Park Fieldhouse.

NEW this year!  We are very proud to present award-winning winemaker Sue-Ann Staff, of Staff Estate Winery, who will be leading a wine tasting.  Sue-Ann has won many awards, including Wine Maker of the Year (first female and youngest ever to win this award) and most recently “Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year”.

Local connoisseur, Norm Litchfield, will lead us through a sampling of whiskeys from around the world, from Canada to Scotland to New Zealand.

This is a great way to kick off the Tartan Day weekend in downtown Fergus.  Tickets are $40 which includes a delicious striploin beef dinner prepared by Fraberts, entertainment and a chance to win a door prize. 

Tickets are available at Fraberts – join us for a fun night of great food, fine whiskeys, terrific wines, and entertainment to celebrate Tartan Day!  Proceeds go to the completion of the Victoria Park Fieldhouse, changing rooms, and showers for local sports groups.

Tartan Day

Come celebrate Tartan Day in downtown Fergus on Sunday, April 13, from 11:30am till 5pm.  It all begins at Fraberts with the Kilted Kilometre at 11:30, presented by the Highland Rugby Club – all you need are running shoes and a kilt – we will provide the refreshments.  It’s only a kilometre – come on out!

Next up, the famous Kilted Krawl through our local pubs – wandering pipe bands, highland dancing, and live celtic music.   New this year we have heavy event demos and McKiddie Highland Games at the Fergus General Store, tea leaf readings at The Bookery, Tartan Tales and Bentley’s Scottish Cream Teas at the Fergus Grand Theatre, children’s story time at Roxanne’s Reflections,  and Scottish sweets and treats at Fergie’s, Scottish Corner Shop, and WR Designs .  Explore the Scottish heritage of Fergus by joining a historical walking tour at 2pm starting at the Fergus Library.  Visit www.downtownfergus.com for more information.

This Saturday, April 5 is the annual Easter Bunny Breakfast at James McQueen Public School from 9:00-11:00am.  Come on out to visit the Easter Bunny and enjoy pancakes, silent auction, and penny tables to support the James McQueen School Council.  Cost is $3 per person or $10 per family at the door.

Fraberts for Breakfast

Fraberts for Breakfast!

You’ve been asking….yes, now Fraberts can help you with breakfast!  Starting Monday, we will be open bright and early at 7am from Monday to Friday for your breakfast on the run needs.  Fresh, fair trade coffee locally roasted by Planet Bean of Guelph, and some delicious breakfast sandwiches including our very own breakfast sausage or peameal bacon panini, ham and swiss on a croissant, muffins, fruit, granola bars…etc.  Almost makes mornings bearable!

Thirteen more sleeps….

The Tower Street bridge is on schedule to re-open Friday, November 8.  It has been a tough year for all of us in downtown Fergus.  We have really appreciated your support throughout this challenging time.  There will be a large party to celebrate the re-opening – stay tuned!

There WILL be one in November – I promise!  I will get Chefs Derek and Jay to get one organized and will let you know ASAP!

Staff News!

Chef Jay and his wife, Joanne, are the proud parents of a new baby boy, Damien, born on Friday, October 18.  Big brother Duncan is also excited!  Everyone is settling in to a new routine of little sleep…
